Planned Parenthood’s New, Green Health Center Opens in Worcester
For Immediate Release: Jan. 30, 2014
Environmentally responsible building allows organization to meet growing community need
WORCESTER, MA — Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts (PPLM) announced the relocation of their Central Massachusetts Health Center from 631 Lincoln Street in Worcester to 470 Pleasant Street in Worcester. The move is the result of growing demand for Planned Parenthood’s reproductive and sexual health care and education programs that the organization has provided in the greater Worcester area since 1982.
The new location will allow Planned Parenthood to expand access to abortion care and preventive health services for men and women including birth control, STD testing, gynecological services, cervical cancer screening and the HPV vaccine. The building is more conveniently located near public transportation and increased parking, and is highly energy efficient and environmentally responsible with such features as; radiant heat and day lighting.
“PPLM has a long history of providing high quality, affordable health care in the Worcester community,” said Jackie Mansfield-Marcoux, Director of PPLM’s Central Massachusetts Health Center. “The demand for these services has dramatically increased and our patient visits have grown over 100% within the last five years. The new health center will allow us to meet this need by expanding our services, education programs, and advocacy work in Central Massachusetts.”
“At a time when many businesses are scaling back, PPLM is making an investment in the City of Worcester, our loyal patients, and the schools and families who rely on education programs to keep their children safe and healthy,” said Dianne Luby PPLM’s President/CEO. “We are grateful for our many Central Massachusetts supporters who have made this health center a reality.”
Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts is the largest freestanding reproductive health care provider in the state. For over 80 years PPLM has protected and promoted sexual and reproductive health and freedom of choice through clinical services, education and advocacy.
