Washington, DC -- This week, Planned Parenthood will host a pop-up installation of its UNSTOPPABLE campaign at the new Eaton DC hotel. The UNSTOPPABLE pop-up installation will run this weekend and is timed for the anniversaries of the Supreme Court’s decision on Roe v. Wade and the Women’s March, as well as a celebration of the new pro-reproductive health majority in the U.S. House of Representatives. In 2018, a record number of women were elected –– including the first Muslim woman, the first two Native American women in the House, the first two Latina women to represent Texas to Congress, the first two Black women to represent New England in Congress, a record number of LGBTQ candidates elected into office, and more.
Planned Parenthood launched the UNSTOPPABLE campaign during the summer to celebrate the simple yet powerful idea that your body is your own. Planned Parenthood, in collaboration with Tanya Selvaratnam, brought together more than 30 established and emerging artists to explore what it means to be UNSTOPPABLE in the movement for women’s rights and equality.
The resulting visual artworks, writings, and films reflect the energy of the movement to challenge and dismantle gender inequality. Many of the artworks generated media attention, including coverage in Glamour, Broadly, and Refinery 29. Artists and filmmakers including Emmy nominated Tiffany Shlain (whose film also features Sia’s song, “Unstoppable,”), Emmy and Peabody award winning Cynthia Hill, Natalie White, Zoe Buckman, Mickalene Thomas, and Carrie Mae Weems generated social media attention.
The pop-up installation consists of an image of Democracy by Carrie Mae Weems and a video display in the lobby showing highlights of the films and artworks, and screenings of all the films in the Eaton DC hotel cinema.
The full collection can be seen at UNSTOPPABLENow.org and with the hashtags: #WeAreUNSTOPPABLE #INVENCIBLES
