Planned Parenthood Celebrates Renovated, State-of-the-Art Cedar Rapids Health Center with Virtual Open House
For Immediate Release: March 24, 2021
Cedar Rapids, IA—Planned Parenthood North Central States Wednesday unveiled its newly renovated, state-of-the-art Cedar Rapids health center. The health center provides high-quality, affordable reproductive health care, including birth control, Sexually Transmitted Infection (STIs) testing and treatment, annual exams, transgender hormone therapy, abortion care, and colposcopy.
"Our investment in our health center reflects our unwavering commitment to serving the Cedar Rapids community, which we have been a part of for more than 40 years,” said Sarah Stoesz, President and CEO of Planned Parenthood North Central States. “The past year has been difficult, but we are here for good and our doors are open. This renovation serves as a beacon of hope for Iowans, a reminder that we are here for nonjudgmental, compassionate care, no matter what. And we will not back down.”
The health center, which served more than 3,300 patients last year, underwent renovations including technology upgrades and renovated exam and waiting rooms. It will also be expanding services to patients five days a week, up from three days a week.
“We are open five days a week and ready to meet the growing needs in Cedar Rapids,” said Markie Channon, manager of the Cedar Rapids Health Center. “Being able to access high-quality, affordable reproductive health care is more important than ever in Iowa. STIs are skyrocketing and the safety net for family planning services has been decimated. We are here to provide the services that Iowans so desperately need, and our renovated health center is an investment in every patient who comes to us for care.”
Planned Parenthood North Central States operates 30 health centers in Iowa, Minnesota, South Dakota and Nebraska. The organization also recently renovated its Ames health center and re-opened a health center in Sioux City in the summer of 2020.
