Statement on Killing of Asian Women in Atlanta
For Immediate Release: March 17, 2021
St. Paul, MN— Yesterday, eight Asian women were killed in Atlanta. While details continue to emerge, a suspect is in custody and people are rallying around Asian American communities after the violent and horrific act.
Statement from Sarah Stoesz, President and CEO of Planned Parenthood North Central States:
“While we don’t yet know the motives behind the vicious attack against Asian women in Atlanta, what we do know is that hate-based violence against Asian Americans is growing in communities across our country. This is despicable, and we stand together with our Asian community. We strongly condemn racism, bigotry and hate from any person toward any person, and everyone has a role to play in naming it for what it is. And far too often this violence is perpetrated against women. We all must stand together to condemn this violence and work as hard as we possibly can to put an end to it."
