Planned Parenthood of Northern New England Launches Free Family Planning Program
For Immediate Release: Jan. 30, 2014
[Burlington, VT] — It’s time to prioritize your health! As part of Women’s Health Week (May 13-19), Planned Parenthood of Northern New England (PPNNE) is pleased to announce a new program for Vermont residents. Through Access Plan, eligible women and men can receive free family planning services including birth control, annual exams, cancer screenings, testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and patient education and counseling.
Access Plan covers low-income Vermonters and can be used at any of the 10 Planned Parenthood Health Centers in Vermont, as well as the Planned Parenthood Health Centers in Claremont and Lebanon, New Hampshire. More than 5,000 Vermonters are expected to benefit from this new program.
“At PPNNE, we know firsthand the importance of checkups in preventing more serious health issues,” said Medical Director Regan Theiler, MD, PhD, FACOG. “That’s why we are so excited about Access Plan. This new program allows Vermont women and men access to regular exams and health screenings at absolutely no cost to them. Early detection and treatment of these diseases saves lives and saves money.”
“Too many pregnancies are unplanned, and this can mean worse outcomes for mothers, fathers and their babies,” said Health Commissioner Harry Chen, MD. “The Health Department supports expanded family planning, pre-conception and general health care for young women and men alike.” Access Plan is a partnership between PPNNE and the Vermont Department of Health and Health Access.
PPNNE has 10 health centers in Vermont that offer a wide range of preventive health services, including cancer screenings, birth control, testing and treatment for STIs, breast health services, the HPV vaccine, and sexual health information and education.
National Women’s Health Week is an excellent opportunity for women to prioritize and take charge of their health. To find out if you qualify for Access Plan, or to make an appointment at PPNNE, call 1-866-476-1321 or visit www.ppnne.org
