Biddeford and Sanford, Maine – Planned Parenthood of Northern New England (PPNNE) today announced that it has been awarded a one-year grant from the United Way of York County totaling $9,500. This investment will help PPNNE provide quality, affordable health care to low income and uninsured York County patients.
Annually, PPNNE serves approximately 2,500 women, men and teens at the agency’s two York County health centers located in Biddeford and Sanford. Through these health centers, York County patients have access to vital reproductive and preventative health services including: annual exams, cancer screenings, contraception counseling and a broad array of effective contraceptive methods, pregnancy testing and options counseling, sexually transmitted infection testing and treatment, and other limited primary care. PPNNE’s Charity Care program offers health care on a sliding fee scale, ensuring that all patients receive care regardless of insurance status or ability to pay. PPNNE deeply values the United Way of York County’s partnership in providing life-changing care to underserved and vulnerable people in our communities.
Through the mobilization of resources, expertise, and funds that support programs focused on the essentials of education, financial stability, and health, United Way of York County advances the common good and strengthens the whole community. Thanks to the continued support of many dedicated individuals, businesses, and organizations throughout York County, this year the United Way is investing in 63 community programs that serve children, youth, adults, and families.
“Thanks to the generosity of many who support United Way’s work throughout the year, we are able to provide continued and much needed support for essential human services across the region,” noted United Way of York County President & CEO Barb Wentworth. ”These important programs support the best start for our youngest citizens, provide healthy foods for children and seniors, engage youth in meaningful service, and meet basic needs, all critical components of our collective efforts to build an even stronger York County.”
