March is Women History Month, a month where we celebrate women and their impact and contributions throughout history. While there are many accolades and achievements to recognize, we cannot rest on our laurels and must continue to work to ensure gender equality, especially in a nation without Roe v. Wade where access to abortion and reproductive health services is not guaranteed. Today and every day, Planned Parenthood of Orange and San Bernardino Counties (PPOSBC) is working towards reducing the gender disparity gap in health care.
But our work to reduce gender disparity in health care goes beyond the care we provide to our patients and community. It is deeply rooted within our culture, as we are committed to elevating and empowering women at all levels of our organization. According to a 2019 study by the World Health Organization, women make up 67% of the global health care sector. However, when you look at leadership positions, only 25% of these positions are held by women.
Here is where your local Planned Parenthood stands out among our industry peers: women make up 77% of senior management and 87% of mid-level management. We recognize that the best way to serve our patients is to ensure they are represented at all levels of leadership. This enables us to approach challenges or problems that will impact our patients in a way that best meets their needs because, as women, we understand how challenging finding compassionate health care in a male-dominated space can be.
But our work is far from over. We will continue to advocate and build an environment where compassionate, high-quality reproductive care is accessible to all who may need it. Join our team of compassionate, expert health care professionals to make a difference in your community for those who need it most. View our available career opportunities at PPOSBCcareers.org.
