Black Maternal Health Week, April 11-17, was created by the Black Mamas Matter Alliance two years ago in response to the dire maternal health inequity facing Black women in the United States, as Black women are between three to four times more likely to die from childbirth and pregnancy-related causes than White women.
When it comes to the state of Black maternal health in the U.S., we need to identify the root causes, amplify the voices of Black women who are being directly impacted, and urge state and national policymakers to make this issue a legislative priority.
