It’s Men’s Health Week, and we all know that some men would rather watch a marathon of the Bachelorette rather than visit the doctor. But we all know that getting tested for STDs is a basic part of staying healthy and taking control of your sex life. So have you been getting this look every time you ask the man in your life to make an appointment? (See picture above)
Here are a few facts that might motivate him.
The most common symptom of STDs is NO SYMPTOMS.
If STDs are left untreated they can lead to an increased risk of cervical cancer and infertility. Scary, right? No need to freak out. Gonorrhea and chlamydia are curable, and you can treat or cure other STDs.
Getting tested is as easy at One, Two, Pee.
STD tests are quick, simple, and painless. The test for chlamydia and gonorrhea involves peeing in a cup. Rapid HIV tests can provide results in as fast as 20 minutes from just a swab inside the mouth. We’d say it’s easier than taking out the garbage. Or throwing out spoiled milk. Or picking your dirty clothes up off the floor. Just sayin’.
It’s cheap.
Planned Parenthood health centers offer low- to no-cost services depending on your income and family size. We take many types of insurance, and we have a sliding scale, meaning if you don’t make a lot, you don’t pay a lot.
It’s fast.
You can get a same day or next day appointment at most of our health centers.
It’s necessary!
One in two sexually active young people in the U.S. will contract an STD by the time they’re 25 — and most won’t know it. Gulp.
If all of this doesn’t work, just tell him he will get a goodie bag full of condoms and lube at the end of his appointment. That should do it.
