Almost every sexual health class teaches students about the vagina and the penis. But some gloss over very important topics – like the clitoris, aka the pleasure center of the vulva.
The sexual health teachers at Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest aren’t just teaching their students about this critical piece of a woman’s anatomy, they actually have a model of the clitoris they show students.
Karen, one of our teaching superstars at Planned Parenthood, tracked down a three-dimensional model design from an artist in France, then went to the library to have it printed on a 3D printer.
Tres bien, Karen!
Here are three things Karen teaches her students about the clitoris that surprise them every time:
• The clitoris is made of spongy tissue like the penis.
• It has thousands of nerve endings — more than any other part of the human body. And it’s only purpose? To make you feel good.
• Most of the clitoris is internal. Only the tip of the clitoris can be seen at the top of the vulva, under the clitoral hood. The rest of the soft, spongy clitoris can extend up to five inches inside the body on both sides of the vagina.
