The board of directors of Palomar Unitarian Universalist Fellowship (PUUF) in Vista selected Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest as the recipient of their plate share for the fourth quarter of 2014.
This means that half of the offerings collected from October 1 through December 31 will be donated to our affiliate. As stated by one of PUUF’s members, “We agree that this continues to be a vital program.”
Reproductive justice is one of the Unitarian Universalist Association’s Congregational Study/Action Issues. On a recent Sunday morning, Rev. Beth Johnson welcomed Vernita Gutierrez, Director of Community Engagement in San Diego, who spoke briefly to PUUF congregants about reproductive justice as it relates to Planned Parenthood.
“Planned Parenthood works hard to address the broad, intersectional social and human rights issues—including racial, economic, cultural and structural inequities and barriers—that affect the ability of individuals and families to thrive,” said Vernita.
“We collaborate with individuals, other health care providers, government agencies, schools, social service, faith and community-based organizations in order to better understand and to try to meet the spectrum of needs of the communities we serve.”
Ms. Bobbie Upson, a PUUF member, retired employee of Planned Parenthood of Delaware, activist, and long-time supporter now living in Oceanside, nominated our affiliate for the plate share.
As Vernita says, “It is truly an honor to be recognized in this way and at such a critical time in our ongoing efforts to ensure access to reproductive health care through service, education and advocacy.
