We’re heading into the holidays, and in a “normal” year, we’d gather together with family and friends to celebrate. But we’re in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, and we all need to take some precautions.
Here are some points to consider as you celebrate the holidays:
Avoid spending time with people outside your living space.
Now is not the time to throw a big holiday party. Try to keep your celebrations small, and include just the people you live with, or fewer than three households together. Giant family reunions can wait a while.
If you do spend time with others: Make it an outside gathering, keep at least 6 feet apart, and wear masks.
What if Grandma is turning 75 over the holidays? Some events are cause for celebration. But if you do celebrate, do your best to have the party outside, socially-distanced, keep your group small, and make sure everyone is wearing a mask. You don’t want to host or attend a super-spreader event!
Avoid crowded spaces and events.
The bigger the crowd, the greater your chances of being exposed to COVID-19. Try to avoid any large gatherings of people. Not everyone takes safety seriously and it’s best to protect yourself — which is all you can control. This includes air travel; avoid if possible, and if you can’t, consider self-isolating for 14 days before and after.
Get your flu shot.
Lastly, it’s not too late to get your flu shot. It will not only reduce your chances of getting the flu, but will reduce your chances of sickness being mistaken for the flu, or getting both the flu and COVID-19 at the same time...which would Not be festive.
Wear your masks and be safe out there. Happy holidays!
