We’re thrilled to expand access to comprehensive education and information through our new Sexual Health Education and Training Portal. The portal will feature online content for both the general public and for educators and school administrators. Planned Parenthood supporter Joyce Axelrod will match every donation to fund the online Sexual Health Education and Training Portal, up to $10,000.
Joyce is proud to support this campaign:
“I hold a special place in my heart for Planned Parenthood’s sex education programs. As a special education teacher, I wrote programs for children with special abilities and unique learning needs, and I saw firsthand the importance of comprehensive sexuality education, especially for people with developmental and cognitive disabilities. I was delighted to learn recently that Planned Parenthood staff were trained to provide a curriculum called Teen Talk Adapted For All Abilities, which is designed specifically to educate young people with special learning needs. Unfortunately, this population is particularly vulnerable to sexual harassment and sexual assault, as well as sexually transmitted infections, and people with special needs have historically been left out of sex ed curriculum.
“Now, as the whole world is adjusting and responding to the COVID-19 pandemic, Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest's education team is adapting too. They are creating an online Sexual Health Education and Training Portal that will expand local, state, and nationwide access to comprehensive sexual health education with online content for both the general public and for teachers and educators. The portal will include courses and resources for teachers, school administrators, and social service providers who teach sexuality education, as well as content curated for teens, students, adults, and parents. And I’m very proud that the portal will provide content geared toward those with cognitive and learning disabilities. The portal will be easily accessible online for all.” –Joyce Axelrod
Planned Parenthood’s education team is already ahead of the curve with their online presence: Their Sex Ed Live series allows people to ask questions and communicate with a sex educator in real time. And Ask the Sexperts features in-depth presentations on specific topics, offered in English and Spanish. The new Sexual Health Education and Training Portal will expand upon this work, with more structured materials for parents, teachers, and people of all ages.
