About two months before the founders of Planned Parenthood opened America’s very first birth control clinic in Brooklyn, Pearl White was born. Police shut down that clinic days later, but there was no stopping the passion and determination of the movement — or Pearl, who passed away recently at the age of 104 years old. “I’ve always supported Planned Parenthood,” said Pearl, a longtime Palm Springs resident whose mantras — “cope and hope” and “don’t lose your sense of humor” — reflected her sunny attitude and energy. Pearl attended many Planned Parenthood events in recent years, and was an ardent supporter of reproductive rights and access. She proudly celebrated Planned Parenthood’s centennial the same year as her own milestone birthday.
Pearl will be deeply missed, and her passion for the mission of Planned Parenthood will forever live on in her memory.
