Turns out, men and women who serve patients at Planned Parenthood are her real-life heroes.
There’s so much to love about Lena Dunham, it’s tough to know where to start. The creator of the hit series “Girls” is a tireless champion for women. We really admire how she uses her platform to advocate for Planned Parenthood. Turns out, she thinks we’re pretty cool too.
In a recent Vanity Fair interview, Dunham was asked who her real-life heroes are. Her answer: “The men and women who work at Planned Parenthood centers across America.”
This isn’t the first time Dunham has given a shout-out to Planned Parenthood. She regularly tweets and speaks publicly about Planned Parenthood and drives her considerable following to our health care and advocacy campaigns. She’s integrated Planned Parenthood into the content of “Girls” and has chosen us as the exclusive partner for the book tour for her upcoming release Not That Kind of Girl: A Young Woman Tells You What She’s “Learned.”
And let’s not forget Dunham’s hilarious Saturday Night Live sketch where she takes on the “men’s rights” activist who shut down two Planned Parenthood centers. It seems she’s always looking for ways to integrate important educational information into her artistic endeavors. This is just one of the many reasons Planned Parenthood Federation of America honored Dunham with its prestigious Maggie Award for Media Excellence last year.
We are so grateful to have a friend like Lena Dunham who’s done so much for women’s health. Look for more Dunham awesomeness this autumn when she works with the Planned Parenthood Action Fund on its electoral campaigns.
