Many sequels pale in comparison to the original, but the Women’s Marches held across the country earlier this month showed that a year’s worth of attacks on women, immigrants, LGBTQ people, people of color, and so many others have sparked the largest grassroots movement in a generation. Millions of people are more eager than ever to stand up, speak up, and vote for women’s rights and women’s health.
This event drew more than 37,000 people in San Diego, with thousands of others attending the marches in North County San Diego, Riverside, Palm Springs, and Imperial Valley. Speakers from a variety of backgrounds raised up their voices in support of the #MeToo movement, immigrant rights, and many other issues that are critical to women’s health. The topics were diverse, but the message was singular: Get out the vote in 2018!
It wasn’t just the speakers who got their message across; signs read “I’m With Her” (with arrows pointing all around), “Viva la Vulva,” and “Girls Just Want Fundamental Human Rights.”
