Amendments pertaining to women’s health expected to be introduced in House long bill, HB12-1335

Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains Statement by VP of Public Affairs Cathy Alderman
DENVER – “While the war on women rages on, it is a breath of fresh air to see amendments to the state’s long bill that illustrate the double-standard placed on women’s health.
“In public policy, women’s health care services are often unfairly targeted and singled out. Amendments 40 and 41 offer a sharp role reversal in what can be characterized as the stigmatization of women’s health.
“Amendment 41 clarifies that the state prohibition on public funding of abortion may not be applied to birth control. This amendment addresses the blurring line of contraception as defined by anti-choice politicians. It is not uncommon for anti-choice lawmakers to falsely state that birth control methods like emergency contraception act as abortifacients.
“We also commend Rep. Pabon (D-4) for introducing Amendment 40, which by prohibiting certain types of male health care services, highlights the inequitable nature of women’s health as it pertains to public policy.
“Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains applauds efforts by Reps. Pabon, Duran, Labuda, Field, Tyler, Hullinghorst and McCann in bringing forth these amendments.
“We’ve seen numerous attempts at the state level to bring the war on women to Colorado. These amendments are an attempt to say, ‘enough is enough.’ Let’s stop attacking women’s health. It’s time to trust women and focus on policies that really support Colorado women and their families.”
