Abortion Care
Six-Week Abortion Ban:
On May 1, 2024 the six-week abortion ban took effect. Abortion care is available in Florida up to six weeks. There are exceptions for fatal fetal diagnosis and to save the life of the mother, with two physicians signing off. There are also exceptions for victims of rape, incest or human trafficking up to 15 weeks of pregnancy (with proper documentation). Our Patient Navigators continue to assist patients seeking care beyond six weeks of pregnancy.
Florida law requires a person to have two in-person appointments at least 24 hours apart to obtain an abortion. Learn more about how this will affect your visit.
If you believe you might be pregnant and it has been six weeks or more since your last period, make an appointment for a pregnancy evaluation at any of our health centers.
If you need to contact a Patient Navigator for help with abortion options in other states with access, please call 850-786-2869.
Here for you.
We are proud to provide compassionate and non-judgmental abortion care. At Planned Parenthood of South, East and North Florida we believe that decisions about whether to choose adoption, end a pregnancy, or raise a child are personal decisions that should be made only by the individual who is pregnant, their family, their faith, and with the counsel of their doctor or health care provider. We ensure that you have medically accurate information about all of your options. Planned Parenthood is here for you, no matter what.
Your Visit: What to Expect
1. Initial Visit
On the day of your initial visit (remember, Florida law requires two appointments at least 24 hours apart to have an abortion):
You will fill out paperwork, complete lab work, have an ultrasound, and meet with an educator. The educator will ask about your medical history, discuss your options with you, as well as the entire abortion process, after-care instructions, birth control options, and will address any of your concerns. This appointment generally lasts an hour and a half.
2. Second Visit
At this appointment, a health care provider will review your patient information and medical history, may repeat lab work and ultrasound, and will answer any questions you may have. You will also fill out consent forms and then depending on whether you are having a medication abortion or in-clinic abortion, you will receive instructions and care pertaining to the specific procedure. Depending on the type of abortion care, this appointment can last 1-3 hours.
3. Follow up
After your visit, you may need to follow up with your provider. This visit may include an ultrasound, blood test or other follow-up work.
Medication Abortion:
Available for people six weeks or less from their last menstrual cycle. A medication abortion is also called the abortion pill and it is a safe and effective way to end an early pregnancy. Medication abortion refers to using two different medicines to end a pregnancy: mifepristone and misoprostol.
In-Clinic Abortion:
Available for people up to six weeks from their last menstrual period. In-clinic abortions are sometimes called surgical abortions, though they're generally an in-office procedure, not surgery.
Abortion Care for People Under 18
Florida law requires teens to notify a parent unless you feel it would be in your best interest not to.

Share Your Story. Make A Difference.
Storytelling is crucial for showing the importance of health care access and breaking down barriers. And it empowers others to do the same. For far too long, many of us have felt shame behind abortions. However, by telling your story you open up a space to normalize abortions and help others feel confident to share their experience as well. Together, we can work to break down barriers to create a more equitable world for reproductive health.
