Statement of Florida Association of Planned Parenthood Affiliates Executive Director Laura Goodhue on Latest ACA Enrollment Numbers:
“Today’s report from the Department of Health and Human Services demonstrates incredible enthusiasm across the state for the Affordable Care Act. The Affordable Care Act is the greatest achievement for women’s health in a generation and Planned Parenthood is proud of our work to ensure our patients and the communities we serve had the information they needed to enroll in new, more affordable health insurance plans”
“The reality is that while the law is already making a huge difference in the lives of women and families across Florida, there are still many in our state that were unable to enroll because politicians, including Gov. Rick Scott failed to show the leadership to expand access to health care. This is already having a devastating impact on approximately a million people in Florida, because they’ve been caught in Florida’s coverage gap.
“We need to expand access to health care so more people can get covered and we urge Rick Scott and the Florida Legislature to accept federal funding to expand access to health care for those Floridians who need it the most.”
Note: Since October of last year Planned Parenthood staff and volunteers successfully completed enrollment for 536 individuals, began applications for 23,500 individuals, conducted outreach to 750,000 individuals and attended over 400 events where materials and information were distributed to 7,000 attendees.
