DoxyPEP

Protect yourself against common sexually transmitted infections.

What is doxyPEP?

DoxyPEP refers to an antibiotic pill called doxycycline, taken in a single dose of 200mg ideally within 24 hours, but up to 72 hours, after condomless sex. DoxyPEP can be used after oral, anal or vaginal/frontal hole sex.

Learn More:

  • What infections does doxyPEP prevent?

DoxyPEP lowers the risk of getting a chlamydia, gonorrhea or syphilis infection if you get exposed. DoxyPEP does not protect against HIV, so those at risk of HIV should still use HIV PrEP or PEP.

  • Who should take doxyPEP?

Studies have shown doxyPEP is effective when used by transwomen or men who have sex with men and are at risk of STI exposure. Factors that may increase this risk include having multiple sex partners, having a partner who has other sex partners, or having been exposed to an STI in the past. DoxyPEP has not been proven to be effective in women, transmen, or people with a vagina, but for those at high risk, it may still be helpful. If you think doxyPEP may be right for you, please schedule an appointment to speak with one of our clinicians.

  • Can I take doxyPEP before sex to prevent STI's?

No. Using doxyPEP before sex has not yet been studied, so there is not currently evidence to show whether this is effective, so it is not recommended.

  • How else can I lower my chance of getting an STI?

Condoms act as a physical barrier between your and your partner's bodily fluids to lower your chance of getting a sexually transmitted infection. PrEP and PEP are medications that you can take either before or after sex to lower your chance of getting HIV.
