What to Expect at Your Visit
STIs can infect different parts of the body depending on what body parts you use for sex. Our team can help you choose the tests that are right for you.
- We can test for gonorrhea, chlamydia, and trichomonas with a urine sample or with a swab of the vagina, throat, or rectum
- If you choose to get a vaginal or rectal swab, our clinic team will talk you through the steps to collect the sample on your own
- HIV and syphilis are most commonly tested from a blood sample, though rapid HIV testing is also available from a mouth swab (results take 20-30 mins).
- STI testing does not require a genital/pelvic exam unless you are having worrisome symptoms like pain or unusual discharge.
- If you have a positive test, we make sure you get the treatment you need.
Post-Testing Information
- Some STI testing and treatment services may be covered by your insurance. If you want to use your insurance, please be sure to bring your insurance card or information to your visit.
- If you do not have health insurance, ask your care team about the options and programs available to help cover the cost.
- Payment is expected at the time of your visit unless other arrangements have been made.
Counseling and Confidentiality
- Counseling and confidential (private) testing for STIs are provided by trained, non-judgmental staff who are sensitive to your needs and concerns.
- Our staff are here to answer any and all questions you have about safer sex and STIs. You can ask us any questions!
