(New Haven, Conn.)—Planned Parenthood of Southern New England (PPSNE) announces the appointment of Brittany Fonteno as the organization’s new Chief External Affairs Officer (CEAO). In this new position, Fonteno will lead the development of a unifying vision for external affairs at PPSNE and oversee external affairs activities including advocacy, public policy, and government affairs; community education and training; and communications, community relations, and marketing.
“As a leader in the reproductive rights and health movements, Brittany has focused her career on achieving health equity for all people by ensuring our most marginalized communities can access essential sexual and reproductive health care,” said Amanda Skinner, President and CEO of PPSNE. “She brings to PPSNE valuable experience in advocacy, communications, organizational strategy, and coalition-building. We are thrilled to have her lead our efforts to strengthen our community relationships, mobilize our supporters and champions, and ensure our patients can access the health care services and information they need and deserve.”
Brittany Fonteno is a seasoned strategist with more than 12 years of experience working and volunteering for sexual and reproductive health organizations and as a leader in the movement for reproductive rights. Most recently, she served as managing director of communications and culture at Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA). Previously, she held positions at the National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health and the New York Abortion Access Fund, where she also served on the board of directors. Fonteno holds a bachelor’s degree in communications and Spanish language from American University and a master’s degree in communications from Georgetown University. She is currently pursuing a Master of Public Health from the City University of New York.
“I am honored and excited to join the team at Planned Parenthood of Southern New England during this pivotal moment for sexual and reproductive rights and health care access,” said Brittany Fonteno. “As a passionate advocate for social justice, I am proud to be working with our partners and our communities to advance a vision of equity where everyone has the right to make their own decisions about their bodies and their futures.”
The CEAO will build connections with communities in Connecticut and Rhode Island and deepen relationships with patients, supporters, and elected officials to advance the PPSNE mission to protect the fundamental right of all individuals to manage their own fertility and sexual health and to ensure access to the services, education and information to realize that right.
