Friends, advocates and supporters helped celebrate the new location of the Stamford Health Center on February 24, 2016.
(New Haven, Conn.) — On February 24, 2016 Planned Parenthood of Southern New England (PPSNE) celebrated the grand opening of its new state-of-the-art health center location at 35 Sixth Street in Stamford, CT. More than 75 supporters, staff and advocates of PPSNE gathered inside the Joan O. L. Tweedy Health Center for the special celebration.
PPSNE welcomed Joan O.L. Tweedy, for whom the center is dedicated, and her family, Stamford Mayor David R. Martin, friends, allies and others to the new center location. Judy Tabar President & CEO of Planned Parenthood of Southern New England welcomed guests and offered a heartfelt thank you to everyone who helped make the new location possible.
“We are committed to ensuring the women, men, and young people in the greater-Stamford area continue to have access to high-quality, affordable health care and information,” stated Tabar. “Thanks to our extraordinary donors, and the hard work and collaboration of so many individuals, the new location went from a dream to a reality. We are excited to grow in Stamford and serve the community well into the future.”
The health center is conveniently located just two miles away from its previous location. The new location is across from LA Fitness and the Ridgeway Shopping Center. It’s centrally located with public transportation, free on-site parking, a state-of-the-art facility with a dedicated space for education programs and events. For convenience, walk-in, online and same day appointments are available.
PPSNE saw its first patients on Sixth Street on December 22, 2015. PPSNE will continue to extend the same high quality, affordable reproductive health care it provides to all of its patients in this new location.
Planned Parenthood is proud of the decades of service provided to members of the Stamford community. Last year, the Stamford Health Center served more than 4,100 patients at the previous location, including more than 2,000 visits for contraception and 3,700 visits for STI tests. 86 percent of the patients had low-incomes, and 37 percent were uninsured.
“People in Stamford need your services and depend on your services,” said Stamford Mayor David R. Martin. “Your services have saved lives.”
Planned Parenthood is a trusted, local resource for convenient and confidential services for women, men and young people, including STD/STI testing, HIV testing and counseling, all FDA approved birth control methods, pregnancy testing and counseling, emergency contraception and more. We offer medical interpretation services for non-English speaking patients; have a sliding fee scale based on one’s income and participate in many insurance plans.
