New Haven, CT – Planned Parenthood of Southern New England extends its gratitude to the Connecticut Senate and House leadership and our legislative champions for their commitment to advancing sexual and reproductive health care in Connecticut. This acknowledgment comes following the allocation of American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds in H.B. 5523 to bolster access to vital health care services across the state.
Amanda Skinner, President & CEO of Planned Parenthood of Southern New England, states that, “The Connecticut General Assembly’s passage of this bill is an important step to protect access to essential health care services. We thank Governor Ned Lamont for his commitment to expanding health care access and we look forward to him signing this into law. Our gratitude also extends to our legislative champions, including House and Senate leadership, for prioritizing the reproductive health and well-being of Connecticut residents.”
Skinner emphasizes Planned Parenthood of Southern New England’s dedication to promoting health equity for all Connecticut residents, noting, “access to reproductive health care is one of the many critical components necessary for building healthier communities across our state. These additional resources in Connecticut will make it possible for more people to obtain the health care they need, from providers they know and trust,” she added.
Gretchen Raffa, Vice President of Public Policy, Advocacy, and Organizing at Planned Parenthood of Southern New England, underscores the significance of the investment in high-quality care. “We applaud our elected leaders for recognizing the value of supporting compassionate, affirming care at our 14 health centers and via telehealth services across Connecticut,” Raffa stated. “This funding will directly contribute to enhancing patient safety and security within our health centers, particularly as we contend with skyrocketing costs in delivering essential care. We are grateful to our elected officials for continuing to make access to reproductive health care a public health priority in our state.”
As the 2024 Connecticut legislative session wraps up, Planned Parenthood of Southern New England also applauds the other legislative victories advancing health care access. These victories include H.B. 5005, “An Act Expanding Paid Sick Days in the State” and H.B. 5198, “An Act Concerning Telehealth”, reflecting the ongoing commitment of our legislative champions to advance policies that prioritize the health and well-being of all individuals in our communities.
Planned Parenthood of Southern New England remains committed to its mission of providing comprehensive sexual and reproductive health care services, education, and advocacy.
