For Immediate Release: July 1, 2015
New Haven, Conn. – Judy Tabar, President & CEO, Planned Parenthood of Southern New England, released the following statement after the Supreme Court issued its ruling in the case of King v. Burwell
“The Supreme Court ruling in favor of Burwell on June 25 is a major victory for women. The decision ensures affordable health care coverage is protected for millions of people across the country. This decision benefits American women and families.
“As the leading women’s health care provider and advocate in Connecticut and Rhode Island, we see firsthand the many benefits of the Affordable Care Act, the availability of financial help for women and the importance of state-based health insurance exchanges – Access Health CT and HealthSource RI. More women than ever have access to high-quality affordable health care and coverage for the full range of reproductive health services, including birth control, maternity and prenatal care, mammograms and other critical preventive health care without a copay.
“The Affordable Care Act is the greatest advance in women’s health in a generation and saved women $483 million alone last year. Planned Parenthood of Southern New England fights to protect the law and ensure reproductive health services are covered. We continue to fight to protect programs that provide affordable birth control, such as Title X and Medicaid.
“Everyone — no matter where they live or how much money they have — should have access to basic health care services. As the leading women’s health care provider and advocate, Planned Parenthood of Southern New England fought hard for the Affordable Care Act and we fight hard to protect it. Above all, we will always be here for our patients and the communities we serve – no matter what.”
