UHPP Press Statement on Anti-choice Activities
For Immediate Release: Jan. 30, 2014
Today, February 14, 2011, Upper Hudson Planned Parenthood has been the target of anti-choice protest activity. This is not an unusual experience for us. In fact, our work to provide affordable, quality, confidential reproductive health services to women has brought fear and resistance since our earliest days. Today, however, we are focused on taking care of the women and families who walk through our health center doors seeking lifesaving cancer screenings, family planning, HIV testing and other services, not on protestors.
Live Action—the group that has called for today’s protest-- is an organized political operation that has the stated goal of “taking out” Planned Parenthood. Live Action is lobbying for federal legislation that would prohibit Planned Parenthood from receiving federal funds that help it provide lifesaving and preventive care to millions of women each year.
In recent weeks we have seen a massive response from supporters of Planned Parenthood who are alarmed about these highly political attacks on our organization and our wonderful staff. Our supporters, many of whom were once our patients want us to stay focused on providing essential, lifesaving healthcare to everyone who needs it. Our supporters are strongly opposed to all efforts to harm Planned Parenthood and the women and young people we care for. No matter who protests, our patients can always count on us to deliver the care they need and deserve. That’s why we’re here.
