The Women's Health Project Hosts an Evening for Mothers and Daughters
For Immediate Release: Jan. 30, 2014
The Hudson based Women’s Health Project will be hosting a mother-daughter event tonight, Wednesday, February 23, 2011. Upper Hudson Planned Parenthood (UHPP) Vice President for Patient Services, Dr. Christine Pluviose, will talk about how to build and maintain healthy mother-daughter relationships. The UHPP S.T.A.R.S. peer educators will perform skits and lead a sexual health-themed Jeopardy game to help open communication between mothers and daughters and to promote reproductive health. Dinner and snacks will also be provided.
The Women’s Health Project is a collaborative effort between the University at Albany Office for the Elimination of Health Care Disparities and Upper Hudson Planned Parenthood to identify and reduce barriers that may keep low income African American women from accessing reproductive and related health care services. The project staffs an outreach office at Bliss Towers in Hudson and hosts bimonthly educational events. According to Project Director Annis Golden, PhD, the events “bring women in the community together, raise overall awareness about health, and provide incentives and opportunities for free or low cost services and screenings.” The UHPP S.T.A.R.S., are high school students from Hudson and Albany counties who have been trained to serve as sources of factual information about sexual health and responsibility to their peers.
Collaborative partners on the grant include the Columbia Healthcare Consortium, Columbia County’s Department of Health, Hudson Housing Authority and Upper Hudson Planned Parenthood. The project is made possible by a grant from the National Institutes of Health.
