Virginia League for Planned Parenthood Launches New Telehealth Service to Connect Patients to Care Remotely
For Immediate Release: April 10, 2020 (Updated: April 10, 2020, 8:54 p.m.)
[RICHMOND, VIRGINIA]-- The Virginia League for Planned Parenthood (VLPP) is proud to announce the launch of a new telehealth program in Virginia, which allows patients to access high-quality, affordable health care services by phone and/or through a private and secure video conferencing platform that connects them with VLPP’s trusted providers. Schedule your appointment online at Virginia League for Planned Parenthood’s website or call Patient Services Representatives at 804-482-6161.
“Virginia League for Planned Parenthood is here with you--no matter where you are. We are proud to use technology and innovation to reach people and provide the health care and information they need when they need it. In these uncertain times, we’re committed to connecting patients to care--no matter what,” said VLPP President and CEO Paulette McElwain.
Through telehealth, patients can access services with fewer visits or without needing to visit a health center at all. VLPP is committed to answering your questions, managing your prescriptions and helping you address your sexual, reproductive and primary health care needs, remotely. Telehealth services are available for STI screenings; hormonal birth control options, including Depo-Provera (injections will still be scheduled at a health center); gender-affirming hormone therapy (HRT); PrEP (pre-exposure); nPEP follow up; primary care services for established patients, including for anxiety and depression, blood pressure, thyroid, seasonal allergies, and vaginal discharge; and other primary care issues as appropriate. We are excited to expand services in the future.
“We know that your sexual, reproductive and primary health care is essential and it can’t wait. As we weather this challenging time together, we don't want you to worry about your birth control, accessing STI tests, accessing primary care services, or navigating your pregnancy options alone,” said VLPP Medical Director Dr. Shanthi Ramesh. “VLPP is doing everything we can to make your life easier and get you the information and care you need in timely and personalized ways. Whether we provide services in person, online or by phone--we’re here with you. And, as always, we are here for patients who need access to abortion care.”
VLPP encourages everyone to follow the latest guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and local public health officials to reduce their risk of getting any respiratory virus or spreading one to others. This includes washing your hands often with soap and water, avoiding close contact with people who are sick, and practicing social distancing.
The safety and health of patients, our staff, and our broader communities remain our highest priority as our country faces an unprecedented public health crisis. Self-isolation and social distancing are ways we can care for ourselves and each other. Our health is connected, and we can all do our part and take care of ourselves, our health, and our community.
